International organizations such as the International Labour Organization (ILO) and OECD (Organization for economic cooperation and development) have given their support as well as representatives of industry and labor unions. OECD coordinated the development of the classification criteria of environmental risk and health (e.g., acute toxicity and carcinogenicity), and the ILO is coordinating the communication of risks (MSDS and cards) working group. The development of physical risk criteria do for example, flammability and reactivity have been coordinated by the Committee of experts on transport of goods dangerous for the United Nations (UNCEDDG).? Will he take the GHS Canada? Canada signed the 1992 Rio Agreement and has rather supported the GHS initiative. Canada is also actively involved and participate in all discussions and meetings GHS, but there is no obligation to the country to adopt the GHS. With or without the participation of Canada, the international effort towards the GHS will continue.

In Canada, individual organizations are responding to the GHS criteria that correspond to its jurisdiction. As such Health Canada is coordinating the Canadian position for the end points on health; Environment Canada environmental endpoints and Transport Canada the endpoints for physical hazards. Health Canada has established an interdepartmental Committee on GHS and consults with the program within Health Canada responsible for areas including WHMIS, products to the consumer, pest management regulatory agency, therapeutic products, veterinary drugs and food, as well as with other departments (Transport Canada, Environment Canada, natural resources, Industry Canada, development of human resources Canada, Foreign Affairs and international trade).
