Mariano Ruiz Mariano Ruiz-Esquide Esquide (born 10 May 1930, at Talcahuano) is a Chilean politician and surgeon. He studied medicine at the University of Concepci n, where he was leader of the Center for Medical Students and the Students Federation of Concepcion. When graduating from college he joined the Christian Democratic Party, was elected as alderman in 1963 in Talcahuano. Communal Command was President of the presidential campaign of Eduardo Frei Montalva and in May 1965 was elected Deputy for laProvincia Concepcion, resulting in significant re-elected with votes in 1969 and 1973. Successively assumed the posts of Head of the committee members of their party, their representative to the National Council and then, in 1970, national secretary of the National Board. In 1973, during the overthrow of President Salvador Allende, signed a public statement rejecting the coup, known as the Declaration of the Group of Thirteen. “When dissolved the National Congress, he settled in Los Angeles, practicing in the local hospital from 1974 to 1976. After his return to Concepcion joined the Regional Hospital of that city, integrating the Regional Council of the Medical College from 1981 to 1989, when he resigned to be nominated candidate for Senator, was elected in 1989 for a period of 8 years. Since then he has been Head of the Senate Committee on the Christian Democrats and member of the Committees of the Senate Health and Education. It is now his party’s National Executive on behalf ofthe Senators, and integrates the Committees on Education, Culture, Science and Technology and the Senate Health Committee.
